Sewing for the Absolute Beginner taught by Karen Burke This three-week course will cover the basics of sewing using a pattern and electric sewing machine. Students will make their own apron. The course instruction includes: * A "Field Trip" to the fabric store to learn how to choose a pattern, fabric, and notions * How to lay out, cut, and mark a pattern * Sewing Machine Basics Saturdays, July 26, August 2, August 9 1 pm - 4 pm Class Fee: $90 Includes pattern and the use of sewing machines, scissors, pins, etc. You will only need to purchase fabric and thread. * * * * *
Wet Felted Scarf taught by Barbara Morejon Saturday, September 6, 2008 10:00 am - 3:00 pm If you attended the Great Lakes Fiber Show in Wooster, I'm sure you saw Barbara at our booth and this beautiful felted scarf. Barbara has designed and created this scarf using a wet felting technique and rovings of ALPACA and MERINO WOOL. (This is NOT a nuno felted scarf.) Locker Hooking for Beginners Taught by Karen Burke Using a tool called a locker hook, loops of unspun wool are pulled through a strong canvas and "locked" into place with a hidden "locker" yarn (or strong cotton string) creating the feel and look of textured weaving. It's inexpensive, easily learned and very versatile. You can make small projects such as coasters and hot pads, or large projects such as a rug! In class you will make a trivet/hot pad. Wet Felted Clutch Handbag by Barbara Morejon Saturday, September 27, 2008 10:00 am - 3:00 pm This class will also be taught by Barbara. This little clutch bag is sure to be a favorite and allows for lavish creativity! The materials kit will include colors appropriate for fall and winter. Do you want to be elegant and sophisticated - or fun and funky? Come to this class and find out! Class fee is $55 and includes all materials. Please bring a bag lunch and beverage. ***** Food Dehydration Basics Taught by Pat Newhauser of In-Touch Holistics Food Dehydration is a wonderful way to enjoy seasonal fruits all year long without the additives and preservatives of grocery store bought dried fruit. Pat will show you how to prepare the fruit, the different dehydrating techniques possible, and storage of the preserved fruit. Saturday, October 4 1 pm - 3 pm Class Fee: $15 * * * * * Soap Making Taught by Vicky Rondy If you live in the Medina area, you may have seen Vicky at the Medina Square Farmer's Market on Saturdays. Vicky will be teaching basic soap making as well as sharing ideas for adding a creative touch to your soaps. You will make your own specialized bar of soap and have materials needed for home soap making. Saturday, October 11 1 pm - 3 pm Class Fee: $30 Includes all materials needed for class Also includes materials to take home so that you can get started at home right away: Soap mold, Glycerin, Dried Herbs * * * * * Photos from our Felting Workshop of Feb. 16, 2008 Fiber Artist and Teacher Suzanne Higgs - www.hookedonfelt.com - made the journey from Plainwell, Michigan to teach us how to make felt. This was genuine, real feltmaking! We used unspun Merino Wool fiber (rovings and batts) that Suzanne hand dyed and carded. The colors blends were spectacular and the finished products - very unique hats - were truly one-of-a-kind.
